Practice Blog Post

My name is Hannah Layne Vincent. I am a twenty-four year old who has learned many life lessons at an early age. I got married to my high school sweetheart at nineteen years old. We were told for years we were too young and it would never work. We just celebrated our five year anniversary and I can honestly say I could not be any happier. We have a twenty one month old daughter, Marley, who is our world. I have worked in a physical therapy office for six and a half years. When I began working there I had all intentions to becoming a Physical Therapist. I started at the University of South Alabama in August of 2008 and on December 7 Jeff, my husband, proposed. Since we were so young I decided it would be best to transfer to Bishop State Community College and pursue a Physical Therapist Assistant degree. I worked hard to complete the prerequisites before applying to the program. A year later I was accepted. What I found alarming was I made the decision to defer a year. In 2011, I had to undergo shoulder surgery which put me out another year from beginning the program. During this time I went to speak with some of my high school teachers and get their input on me changing my major to Education.

I went back and forth on what was most important to me and what would make me satisfied. I found out I was pregnant early in 2012. We had our greatest achievement to date on September 28, 2012. During my paternity leave I realized what makes me happiest. I am at my best when I am helping people. Whether it was physical, mental, emotional, or giving someone the knowledge to carry through their life. I came back to the University of South Alabama in the Fall of 2013 pursuing Education. I knew I was on the right path when I finally felt confident about what I was studying and not just that I enjoyed the content. I feel through my life experiences I will be able to make an effect on others. The youth in our nation is our future by teaching and guiding them we will make an everlasting impression and change the lives of those we come in contact with. I was incredibly blessed to have phenomenal teachers and mentors throughout my life and I want to give back to others what has been given to me.

Most people do not know I was a former ballerina. Ballet was one of my true passions. I was a member of a company in Mississippi, the Nashville Ballet, and the Mobile Ballet. I did many different types of dance but ballet is where my heart will always call home. I hope once I graduate I will be able to return and possibly share that love with my daughter. Music has been a major part of my life as well. I feel music is a wonderful outlet and can help someone get through any situation. Music has gotten me through some of my lowest points and my highest points. What I am most passionate about is my family and ensuring we have the brightest futures possible. I am blessed to have the support and love of my family and I want to give them everything they need and desire.
